Part –Time Afterschool Program Positions
Northside Center for Child Development, a mental health clinic in East Harlem, is seeking Experienced Program Aides and Activity Specialists for our After-School Programs. We seek applicants with a background in special education, social services and/or psychology, who also have two or more years experience working with children in schools, afterschool programs, and summer camps. The position will require working closely with children who present educational, emotional and behavioral difficulties.
Part-Time
After School Program Aides
Responsibilities include but are not limited to;
- Supervising children with special needs, ages 5-12, in groups and individually in a wide range of recreational and educational activities (i.e., homework help, physical recreation, table games, arts and crafts, STEM activities, etc.).
- Picking up children from nearby schools, as needed.
- Helping children negotiate social interactions.
- Mediating conflicts presented by children.
- Dismissing children from the program, ensuring they leave with approved caregivers.
- Assisting with serving meals and snacks to program participants.
- Developing/implementing daily program curriculum.
- Working collaboratively with parents/guardians and all stakeholders.
- Assisting the program coordinator with a variety of tasks related to running the program.
- Supervising children on field trips.
- Providing first aid when appropriate. (Training will be provided.)
- Participation with mandatory professional developments workshops.
Applicants must be available;
- (M-F 2:00pm -6:30pm during the school year.)
- 8am – 6pm on 13 full days during the school year. Full days include school holidays such as Spring Recess, Winter Recess, Election Day, Veteran’s Day etc.
- Applicants must be available to work with the summer camp, July and August 8:00am – 6:00pm M-F (The program runs for 7 weeks.)
Part-Time
After school/ Summer Program Activities Specialists in the areas of; Healthy Living, Recreation, and Arts and Crafts
Applicants must have at least two years of significant, verifiable, teaching experience within the area they are applying for. All applicants must have experience working with children with special needs.
This is a perfect, part-time, position for an experienced educator.
Northside is located at 110th St and Madison Avenue, which is convenient to subway and bus lines.
