"Our children are our most precious resource. They must be saved, and Northside Center must help to make them strong - so that they can help others."

Dr. Kenneth B. Clark

In its historic 1954 ruling in Brown v. Board of Education, which declared segregation in public schools unconstitutional, the U.S. Supreme Court cited the pioneering research of Dr. Mamie Phipps Clark and Dr. Kenneth B. Clark. Chief Justice Earl Warren wrote that separating black children “…from others of similar age and qualifications solely because of their race generates a feeling of inferiority as to their status in the community that may affect their hearts and minds in a way unlikely ever to be undone.” The Clarks’ research would have a profound influence on the history of race in this country as well as the discipline of psychology; this was the first time the Court had ever admitted social science research as hard evidence.
